James Freeman IV, of Worcester, pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including armed assault to murder, this week in connection with the Feb. 2, 2023 shooting, the Worcester County District Attorney announced. He'll serve two years of probation after he is released from prison.
Police said Freeman fired at a passing car just after 2:30 a.m. near 114 Main Street, outside the Worcester trial court. A Shotspotter call sent officers rushing to the scene, and surveillance video showed the shots came from a Toyota, the prosecutor said.
Officers found a Toyota that matched the surveillance video with a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun and ammunition in the center console, Worcester police said.
No one was injured in the shooting, authorities said.
Worcester County Assistant District Attorney Karen Bell prosecuted the case.
